Deutsch: Vorderseite: SIGIS D G ARH EP MA MAR BRAN. Brustbild Sigismund mit Barett, Harnisch und Feldbinde nach links.

Rückseite: PRIMAS IN GERMAN. Zehnfeldiges Wappen mit drei Helmen.

Kommentar: Sigismund war ein Sohn des brandenburgischen Kurfürsten Joachims II. Von ihm existieren als Magdeburger Münzen nur zwei sehr seltene Taler, wovon dieser der etwas häufigere ist. Etwas unbeholfener Stempelschnitt mit spiegelverkehrten N auf beiden Seiten und ungelenker Abkürzung für 'Archiepiscopus' auf der Vs. Nach Schrötter durch den Münzmeister Berthold Lucke 1554 geprägt und vermutlich anläßlich der Huldigung in Halle am 23. Januar 1554 entstanden. Das Stück zeigt deutliche Abnutzung, ist also im Geldverkehr umgelaufen. Bemerkenswert ist das ganz und gar ungeistliche Bildnis Sigismunds, der sich in der Umschrift aber ausdrücklich 'Archiepiscopus' (Erzbischof) nennt. Um 1560 trat er zum lutherischen Glauben über und führte 1561 im gesamten Erzstift Magdeburg die Reformation ein.
