Summary edit

Description This photo shows Francoise Blachere, a Research Biologist at NIOSH with “Homer,” a cough manikin built by researchers at NIOSH. The manikin simulates a patient with influenza. Homer resides in a simulated medical examination room with “Marge,” a breathing manikin that can be outfitted with a mask or respirator. The manikins are used in research to study the capabilities of respirators for protecting health care workers who may be at heightened risk for flu as a result of their job duties.
