"This Mansion situate on the south side of Market Street (then High Street,) between 5th and 6th Street originally belonged to Mr. Richard Penn; when he vacated, Genl. Benedict Arnold occupied after him Mr. Sieur Holker. On the 2nd of Jan'y. 1780 it caught fire and was much damaged, it was next the head quarters of Genl. Hoive during the occupation of Philada. by British, likewise the residence of Robert Morris, General Washington occupied it in 1791 (then No. 190 High Street) when President of the United States. Robert Morris occupying the 3 story brick house on the south east corner of Sixth Street as seen above..."
