Bill McTigue stands at a Marble Point survey control station used during construction of air strip. The air strip is no longer in use. However, a contemporary fuel station at the site is used for re-fueling helicopters enroute to and returning from research operations into the nearby continental interior.

The photo is in the NOAA photo library not because William McTigue was working for NOAA at the time of the photo but because his daughter, Teresa McTigue, is a NOAA scientist. William was a civilian cartographer with Navy Hydrographic.
