Summary edit

Description
English: Margaret Pit, Heddon on the Wall The last deep coal mine (and drift mine) to be worked in Heddon was Margaret Pit. Situated about one kilometre to the south east of the village, in the valley bottom all that remains now is a slag heap and the overgrown remains of buildings. It supplied coal to the village via 7cwt tubs hauled up by a wire rope driven by a stationary engine at the pit and also coal and clay to the nearby Heddon Brick works. The mine closed in the early 1930's when the remaining reserves were accessed from the Throckley Isabella pit. http://www.heddon.currantbun.com/history/village/coal.htm
