Magyar: „A felséges uralkodóház tagja, boldog emlékű József nádorunk fia: József főherczeg és honvédfőparancsnok az, kinek Budapest a Margitsziget gyönyörűségeit köszönheti.” Habsburg–Lotaringiai József főherceg Ybl Miklóssal az egész szigetre kiterjedő tervet készíttetett, ebből 1873-ra elkészült a gyógyfürdő, két vendéglő, több villa, a Kisszálló, a gépház és a neoreneszánsz Nagyszálló. Ekkor alakították ki mesterségesen elhelyezett sziklák segítségével a vízesést is. Egyesítette a három különálló szigetet: a Festő-szigetet, a Fürdő-szigetet, valamint a Nyulak szigetét, hogy európai hírű fürdőhelyet alakítson ki. A sziget 1900-ig csak csónakkal volt megközelíthető. |
