Français : Grand bal à la cour de Sardaigne, le 24 janvier 1859, d'après le dessin de M. Riou. Ce qui suit est un récit du bal par l'historien Charles de la Varenne, dont Riou fait souvent mention dans ses lettres.- BAL DE LA COUR. Lundi soir, 24 janvier, un grand bal, dont l'annonce avait mis depuis plusieurs jours en émoi toute la société de la capitale, réunissait au château, autour du roi, de sa fille et de son futur gendre,l'élite de la cour, de l'armée et de l'administration Le corps diplomatique y assistait au grand complet. Une magnificence sans exemple jusque là avait été déployée pour fêter l'union officiellement annoncée la veille. Les salons, remplis d'élégantes jeunes femmes, de riches uniformes, d'habits brodés et chamarrésde croix, offraient un coup d'œil magique. Mme Clotilde et le prince, objets de l'attention de tous, paraissaient charmés de cette belle fête et de cet empressement.Le bal a été ouvert par le roi et la comtesse de Stackelberg, le prince Napoléon et S. A. R. Mme Clotilde. Dans la contredanse figuraient le prince de la Tourd'Auvergne, ministre de France, avec Mme la comtesse de la Marmora; le général Niel, aide de camp de l'empereur, avec Mme la comtesse Della Rocca; M.le comte de Cavour, président du conseil, avec Mme de Lanoy, femme du ministre de Belgique ; le général de La Marmora, ministre de la guerre,avec la marquise Boyl; le le colonel de Franconnière, aide de camp du prince Napoléon, avec Mme de Coëllo, femm du ministre d'Espagne; le général Della Rocca, premier aide de camp du roi, avec Mme la marquise de Villamarina, femme du ministre de Sardaigne à Paris; le comte Ferri-Pizani, aide camp du prince, avec la comtesse d'Anglie.
