Southern Appalachian Mountain bogs are one of North America’s rarest habitats – home to several threatened and endangered plants and animals. For decades individuals and organizations have worked for their conservation. One of the most recent efforts is to establish a national wildlife refuge to conserve these areas, a proposal that could go further than any other effort to protect these rare places.
