English: Martyr's Monument, Grassmarket The refurbishment of the Grassmarket in the latter half of 2008 included the removal of the wall which surrounded the monument (the circular disc) allowing it to be seen more clearly. Plaques still explain the "Martyrs of the Covenant" who were executed here in the 1660s. The Grassmarket was for long a place of public execution in Edinburgh as well as a market place. |
