Description

Maximum card (Maxicard) No. "MK 486" to a commemorative stamp of the Principality of Liechtenstein; 2020; as part of the issue "Princely Treasures – hunting scenes after paintings by Peter Paul Rubens".; Meant is the painter of the Flemish Baroque Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640).; The stamp on this Maxicard shows the painting by Rubens "The Hunting of the Diana", which was created in or short before 1628 in the style of the Flemish Baroque and was a present for the King Philipp IV of Spain by Mr. Rubens as he went as Flemish diplomat to the court of the Spanish-Habsburg crown in Madrid.; After, this painting was showed to the public in the then new built „Pieza Ochavada“ (in the 1680s), the „Alcázar de Madrid“, where it was probably destroyed by fire in 1734.; The Prince of and to Liechtenstein Hans-Adam II purchased in 1999 an oil-draft of this former painting from a private owner.; Art experts attested the authenticity of this oil-draft because of the high coincidence with an atelier-copy of the destoyed painting.; The Maxicard shows a detail of this oil-draft to the painting.; One is assuming that this oil draft or painting was only a pendant to the painting "Die Jagd des Meleager und der Atalante" by Rubens.; At the painting "The Hunting of the Diana“, the goddess Diana and her attendants press forward to a deer, which is falling down, wounded by an gear and brought quarry to bay by the dogs.: The deer cow in the background is trying to escape.; The obverse of the postcard shows a detail of this painting.; The stamp on this maximum card is postmarked with a round lineless first-day special cancellation from 9490 Vaduz, with 28,0 mm diameter and the signature of Rubens as central motive.

This is a faithful photographic reproduction of a two-dimensional, public domain work of art. The work of art itself is in the public domain for the following reason:
Public domain

This work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 70 years or fewer.

You must also include a United States public domain tag to indicate why this work is in the public domain in the United States. Note that a few countries have copyright terms longer than 70 years: Mexico has 100 years, Jamaica has 95 years, Colombia has 80 years, and Guatemala and Samoa have 75 years. This image may not be in the public domain in these countries, which moreover do not implement the rule of the shorter term. Honduras has a general copyright term of 75 years, but it does implement the rule of the shorter term. Copyright may extend on works created by French who died for France in World War II (more information), Russians who served in the Eastern Front of World War II (known as the Great Patriotic War in Russia) and posthumously rehabilitated victims of Soviet repressions (more information).

The official position taken by the Wikimedia Foundation is that "faithful reproductions of two-dimensional public domain works of art are public domain".
This photographic reproduction is therefore also considered to be in the public domain in the United States. In other jurisdictions, re-use of this content may be restricted; see Reuse of PD-Art photographs for details.
