Description

Maximum card (Maxicard) "MK 486" to a commemorative stamp of the Principality of Liechtenstein; 2020; to the issue "Princely Treasures – hunting scenes after paintings by Peter Paul Rubens".; Meant ist the painter of the Flemish Baroque Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640).; The stamp shows the painting by Rubens "The Hunting of the Meleager and the Atalante".; This painting was created in 1628 or shortly before in the style of the Flemish Baroque and depicted a hunting scene described by a poem of the old-Greek antiquity and was part of a present for the Spanish King (a set of 8 colorful paintings by Rubens).; This painting let King Philipp IV of Spain shows to the public in the "Salón Nuevo des Alcazár" in Madrid until to the 1640s as it was integrated in the then new built "Pieza Ochavada", but, where it was destoyed unfortunately probably by fire in 1734. The Prince Hans-Adam II of and to Liechtenstein puchased a copy of this painting in 1999 from a private owner and which contemporary is a part of the "Princely Collections of Liechtenstein" in Vienna (Austria).; The full title of the painting is "The hunting of the Meleager and the Atalante".; It shows a scene according to the "Metamorphoses" of the Ovid (43 BC – 17 AD), chapter VIII, 229-237 in which the King Oineus of Calydonia had forgotten to bring a thank offering for the goddess of the Hunt, Diana. In an act of revenge was sent by the goddess Diana to Oineus the hunted corpse of a destoying raging (male) wild boar ("Sus scrofa"), hunted by Diana and her attendants in combination with the bravest heroes of Greece.; The painting is showing this hunting scene.; The deadly wounded deer (by an gear of the hero Telamon) falls down and is anew wounded by the virgin Atalante (one of the attendants of the Diana) behind the ear (with an arrow shooted by an bow). During this deer is sqirming in his hurtings, the hero Meleager is hurrying from right into the scene, during the hero Peleus is already at the wounded deer.; The maximum card motive shows a detail of this colorful painting.; The stamp was postmarked by a round lineless first-day special cancellation from 9490 Vaduz, with a diameter of 28.0 mm and the signature of Rubens as central motive.
