Description
English: This is Figure 7-14 in the Apollo 11 Preliminary Science Report (NASA SP-214), 1969, which has the following caption:
Optical path in the McDonald Observatory 107- in. telescope.
The observatory is located at the University of Texas, at Mount Locke, TX, and in 1969 was the third largest telescope in the world. It was used to make measurements from the earth to the moon using a laser (custom-built two-stage pockels-cell switched ruby system) and the Laser Ranging Retroreflector system left on the lunar surface at the Apollo 11 landing site (Tranquility Base).
