English: Queen's South Africa Medal 1899-1902 with one bar Medal awarded to 5177 Pte H Damsell, Somerset Light Infantry. Bar for Cape Colony silver medal; one bar; plain straight swivelling suspender; with ribbon obverse- crowned and veiled head of Queen Victoria and legend VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX reverse- Britannia with a flag in her left hand and holding out a laurel wreath in her right towards an advancing party of soldiers; in the background are two warships; below the wreath, in two lines- 1899-1900 in relief; around top- SOUTH AFRICA bar- CAPE COLONY ribbon- red with two dark blue stripes and a broad orange central stripe named on edge- 5177 PTE H. DAMSELL SOMERSET LT. INF.

Notes Queen's South Africa Medal 1899-1902 Medal awarded to 5177 Pte H Damsell, Somerset Light Infantry. He received the bar for Cape Colony 11th October 1899-31st May 1902. This was issued to all troops in Natal at any time between 11th October 1899 and 31st May 1902 who received no other bars for other actions in Cape Colony, nor the ‘Natal’ bar.
