Notes India General Service Medal 1908-35 - North West Frontier 1908 bar Medal awarded to 6463 Sgt William Molyneux, 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. This was the first issue of the India General Service Medal 1908-35 which was always issued with the The North West Frontier bar and was awarded to those who took part in the Zakka Khel and Mohmand punitive expeditions on the North West Frontier, India between 14 February - 31 May 1908. The Jamrud Fort illustrated on the medal stands at the entrance to the Khyber Pass. Its foundation stone was laid in 1836 by Sikh General Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa, and was completed in early 1837. From that time it has been a key position commanding the frontier between India and Afghanistan. Sergeant William Molyneux also served with the Northumberland Fusiliers during WW1. He lost his life on 26th July 1918, aged 38 years. His death is commemorated at the Loos Memorial (Panel 20 to 22), Pas de Calais, France. He left a widow, Harriett Annie Molyneux, of 7, Rata Rd., Devonport, Auckland, New Zealand. See- National Archives UK Medal Roll ref- WO 372-14; with image
