DescriptionMelia White House (5341993134).jpg |
This was my hotel for the final four nights in London in November 2003. Originally built in the 1930s as an apartment building, it was converted to a hotel later on, and as the name gives away, is run by the Sol Melia group that is better known in Spanish-speaking countries. This was the most luxurious hotel that I had ever stayed in to date - but thanks to Priceline and BiddingForTravel.com tips, I paid only USD $85 per night plus tax. Some niceties of the building included every set of power outlets including not only the standard 220V British outlet, but also a 220V Continental outlet and a 110V American outlet as well (great for charging my camera AND running my portable CD player). Another interesting feature was the lift system, where I went to a central touch screen to indicate my desired floor, and the screen would respond by indicating which of the four cars - A through D - would take me there next. Once in the cars, OPEN was the only button available. The touch screen was multilingual, and one of the language choices was American English, which simply changed the word "lift" to "elevator." |
