Wayside crosses in the municipality of Mellau (Klaus district) in the Bregenz forest in Vorarlberg, Austria

Summary edit

Description
English: Wayside crosses in the municipality of Mellau (Klaus district) in the Bregenz forest in Vorarlberg, Austria. These three wayside-crosses have been at the Mellau village entrance in the Klaus district since ancient times. They are said to have been erected during the Thirty Years' War and stopped the plague. That is why these are also referred to as "plague crosses". Most recently, the crosses were renewed in 1960. Another legend tells that the "three blessed siblings", the regional saint Merbod, Diedo and Ilga, have said goodbye here and went separate paths in the then hardly populated Bregenzerwald.
