Hätten Ew[er] Wohlgeb[oren] wol die Gütigkeit, mich zu belehren,
ob diejenigen Muschelthiere, die auf dem Boden der See leben,
z[um] B[eispiel] Austern u[nd] s[o] f[ort] zu ihrem Leben Luft nöthig haben,
ob sie wirklich Luft einathmen, wenn sie unter dem
Wasser sind, oder nicht.
Die Frage ist mir jetzt deshalb wichtig, weil Moses
sie von seiner Schöpfung auszuschließen scheint, und
falls sie nicht Luft athmen, gewiß ausschließt; recht
so, wie die Versteinerungen auf Bergen sie in
eine Zeit zu setzen scheinen, da noch die Erde bloßer
Ocean, und Grund des Meeres war.
