English: First Lady Michelle Obama inspects the new White House china service on April 27, 2015, in the China Room of the White House in Washington, D.C., in the United States.
Each setting of the new china contains 11 pieces, and there are 320 settings. Most of the pieces have an edge of textured gold, a band of color named "Kailua blue" (inspired by the color of the sea off President Obama's home state of Hawaii), and a narrow inner band of gold. Pickard China of Illinois manufactured the porcelain. At the bottom of the image is a china plate owned by then-Secretary of State James Madison in 1806. The pattern on the plate inspired a similar, bas-relief, uncolored design on the dinner plates and teacups of the Obama china service. |
