He waswell educated and unusually bright intel-lectually, having always held responsiblepositions before he was overtaken and over-come by the drink habit. Could anything be done for him ? Washypnotism equal to such a case? Yes, providedhe was a good subject for suggestive treatment,as he proved to be. Hypnosis was induced and suggestions givento the effect that he would lose his appetite fordrink; that it was a habit and he had strengthto resist it; that he would avoid saloons and thecompanions with whom he had frequented them;that he would take pride in his victory over hishabit, for he would certainly conquer it.
