Title
Modern commemorative medal.
Description
English: Commemorative medal for the opening of Bolton Town Hall in 1873. It is made of pewter/lead and has been cast. It has been damamged and some of the edges have broken off. There are traces of some iron corrosion on the surface.

One side has a picture of the town hall with the words OPENED BY.... around the edge. Below the picture it says TOWN HALL BOLTON.

The second side has an elephant in the centre inside a laurel wreath. The elephant has a howdah on its back. This is the seat used by hunters in India and is sometimes seen as a castle (this is where 'Elephant and Castle' came from). There is writing around the edge, some of which can be read as ...TOWN CLERK...
