Title |
Modern spoon bowl (front) |
||
Description |
English: Electro-plated nickel silver fiddle pattern spoon bowl, oval in plan with pointed bowl and part of the stem remaining. The stem ends in a V-shape on the back of the bowl. The bowl is probably part of a serving spoon as it is quite wide in plan and shallow in profile. The spoon has been crushed and broken so that most of the stem is missing, and it is now quite corroded. The shape of the bowl and the stem suggest that it dates from the Modern period.
19th-20th century Cuddeford (1994) illustrates a similar example of a serving spoon and a dessert spoon which are both made of base metal on page 47, No.21, which are dated to the Modern period. Moore (1987) illustrates a similar example, in style, on page 28, which is made of Sheffield plate and dates from c.1800-1820, and another on page 30, which is electro-plated nickel silver and dates from c.1880. |
