Summary edit

Description
English: Molybdenite
Locality
Poudrette quarry (De-Mix quarry; Demix quarry; Uni-Mix quarry; Carrière Mont Saint-Hilaire; MSH), Mont Saint-Hilaire, La Vallée-du-Richelieu RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada
Description
Yes, this is a very crumpled crystal of molybdenite. But that's the point. I know I'm a sloppy collector, but every molybdenite crystal from this find, even ones hidden deep inside little cavities, appears to be crumpled. I know that molybdenite is flexible (but not elastic), but I don't think I was the guilty party here. Why does it do that? The origami-like folds make me wonder if this is some sort of twin, or a "battle" between the 2-H and 3-R polytypes. (According to "Monteregian Treasures", both polytypes often co-exist in the same crystal at MSH.) What are the twinning laws of molybdenite - if any? If anyone knows, please leave a comment. Regarding the color: In reality, the molybdenite has the usual bright silvery hue with blue highlights. But, because of the specular reflections, only rarely am I able to show that in a photo. The only time I came close to success was with File:Molybdenite-178112.jpg. Most of my photos make the molybdenite look black & white. This is from a breccia-like environment associated with the Poudrette pegmatite.
