English: Watercolor attributed to John Elliott-Woolford, (1778-1866). In 1819, the Fortifications are dismantled, the old City is now open. On the far left we can see Nelson's Column, which overlooks Place Jacques-Cartier, all the buildings of the former Jesuit site, and to the right, the St.Gabriel Presbyterian Church of Scotland, built in 1792 near the north wall of the Ancienne Montréal, on rue Saint-Gabriel. On the right, two imposing residences, that of Sir William Edmond Logan alongside that of Beaubien. |
