Description

Document BANQ / Montreal Map: Hopkins 1879.

Au coeur du quartier chinois, trois bâtiments, mentionnés sur cette carte, témoignent du passage de la communauté protestante. L'église sécessionniste d'Écosse (Notre-Dame-des-Anges), aujourd'hui Mission catholique chinoise sur rue de La Gauchetière, construite en 1834, une des plus anciennes de la ville construite en dehors de secteur du Vieux Montréal. L'église presbytérienne "Free Church" et le "British Canadian School", recyclés par la communauté chinoise à des fins industrielles. Le Square Dufferin, aménagé vers 1870 sur le site de l'ancien cimetière protestant, est disparu à son tour sous le complexe Guy-Favreau.

Plus bas sur cette carte on mentionne "Christian Brothers School", un secteur occupé par l'ancienne École Saint-Laurent, fondée en 1837 par les Frères des Écoles Chrétiennes.
