Description
Nederlands: Op 31 maart 1945, enkele dagen voor de bevrijding, werden op de IJsselkade tien gevangenen uit het Huis van Bewaring, met name verzetsmensen, geëxecuteerd door de Duitse Sicherheitsdienst. Hun lichamen werden twee aan twee vastgebonden en in de IJssel gegooid. Een van hen hield zich dood en wist gewond te ontsnappen. Meteen na de bevrijding werd een tijdelijk houten gedenkteken voor deze slachtoffers opgericht, dat al snel door koningin Wilhelmina werd bezocht. Later werd het houten kruis begraven onder het Gideonmonument aan de Rozengracht.
