« Le monument du Portageur, conçu par Joseph Dickner et réalisé par Jean-Marc de Courval, est érigé par la Commission des monuments nationaux le 29 juin 1975. Ce monument fait référence au sentier du Portage, une route historique, faite de chemins d’eau et de chemins de terre. Pendant des millénaires, les Amérindiens se déplacent entre la baie de Fundy et le fleuve Saint-Laurent en canotant sur le lac Témiscouata et la rivière Madawaska, ou encore, le plus souvent, sur la rivière Saint-François et le lac Pohénégamook. » – museeacadien.com
