Summary edit
DescriptionMorlais Colliery, steam winding engine - geograph.org.uk - 1769348.jpg |
English: Morlais Colliery, steam winding engine Andrew Barclay Sons & Co Ltd horizontal duplex winder built in 1907 and retired 1981. Now preserved at Cydweli Industrial Museum. A very pretty little engine. It has Corliss valves on the cylinders and although there are dashpot castings, it appears to have probably always been non-releasing. The vertical objects between the cylinders are a steam brake engine (fail on) and a Mellings controller. The perspex/glass case houses a Lilley Hoist Controller. The driver sat on the right. This was a memorable Saturday afternoon that included an underground trip with a tipsy worker. |
