Description

I am visiting San Francisco for the Pride weekend - one that turned out to be the most historic of them all, thanks to the Supreme Court rulings that legal same-sex marriages cannot be denied federal benefits, and that Proposition 8, which had banned same-sex marriages in California in late 2008, is dead on a legal technicality.

The Mormon Church was one of the key organizers for the effort to pass Proposition 8 and re-ban same-sex marriages in California back in 2008 - it certainly was the most prolific in terms of mobilizing grassroots campaigning and volunteers. However, this has earned the church severe backlash from the greater society, and while the church officially remains homophobic, many individual Mormons have bucked the church's teachings and have come out in favor of LGBT rights.

It certainly is a refreshing sight to see all these Mormons, complete with the modest conservative outfits they are well associated with, march in support of LGBT marriage rights. And indeed some of the marchers are using rainbow and other LGBT color schemes to make their point.
