| Description |
(1 in a multiple picture album) There are places in the American park system which will shock you when first seen. Crater Lake is one of them. Valley of Fire is another. You'll drive through barren desert for some way and cross over a dull gray volcanic mountain range. Then you'll top a hill and see these amazing red rock formations below, seemingly out of place. They are north of Las Vegas and just west of Lake Mead. These formations are so different in shape and color from anything around them that you begin to think that some alien life force dropped them here. You'll find evidence that many generations of Native Americans as far back as the Anazasi lived here. Some have left behind petroglyphs. I imagine they ascribed spiritual meaning to such a singular place. |
