do no more than thank you/ The old man bowed politely, got in his skiff,and sailed away. The other continued to walkabout the island and rub his hands together, andmake his plans. He was now the richest man inthe world. He could buy kings and princes andempires. He had enough gold to buy all theships on the sea and to control all the trade onthe land. He was great. He was powerful. All these thoughts passed through his mindand he was very happy. The sun looked at theyoung man a long time, and then went to bed inthe sea. Two little gray lizards looked at himuntil the sun went down, and then they crawledback in their holes. A big black bird sailedround and round and watched him until nearlydark, and then sailed away.
