English: There's a bit of a mystery to this Poole Collection photograph. It was allegedly taken in Butlerstown Castle in Waterford (circa 1904, I think). There are three photos all taken at the same time. It was ordered by a Mr Wilcock, who may have been the butler. Do these gentlemen look like staff?
I'm not convinced Butlerstown Castle was sizeable enough to support a staff of this size, or indeed was grand enough to have such portraits. They remind me more of somewhere like the picture gallery in Kilkenny Castle. Anyway, that's my tuppence worth. What do you all think? Date: Circa 1904? NLI Ref.: P_WP_1342 |
