Summary edit

Description
English: Mrs. Charles B. Dillingham (left) and Mrs. Julian Gerard at the United Hunts' races held at Belmont Park in June, 1919.

The clothing of both women was described as "typically French" in a contemporary issue of the Dry Goods Economist: "Mrs. Dillingham's costume was made of black satin on which were appliqued motifs of brown and tan feathers that looked like dried fine seaweed. The skirt appeared to be in one straight piece gathered to the belt and overlapping on the right side, where it hung loose and was some five or six inches shorter than the front of the skirt. The elbow sleeves, the square neck, and the very short skirt, were typical of the latest French creations."

"The costume worn by Mrs. Gerard was of navy serge, with a pique vest which continued to the knees in a deep point. The material overlapped at the hem in front and was fastened with a large pearl button, around which was gathered a narrow strip of the serge and on the outside of that a ruffle of lace. This trimming was repeated on one side of the pique collar, and on the opposite side was a huge buttonhole. The sash was of a bright blue fiber silk."

"The shoes worn by Mrs. Dillingham, and also those of Mrs. Gerard, were noteworthy because of their French air and for the trimmings of a contrasting color spoken of earlier in this article."
