DescriptionMuddleswood - geograph.org.uk - 1114509.jpg |
English: Muddleswood Small hamlet consisting of all the houses viewed in the shot. The building on the right is the Old Toll Cottage which was built when the minor road to Albourne was turnpiked in around 1810. Located at a crossroads it included a new road, now the current B2117, that headed west to Henfield and an upgraded section, also the B2117, that headed east to Hurstpierpoint, along with upgrading the road that ran north-south which eventually became the main London-Brighton coaching route and the A23 until the early 1990s when a new dual carriageway was constructed to bypass the single sections of lane that ran through Albourne, Sayers Common and Hickstead. The road to Albourne is now the B2118, whilst the section heading south has been closed to vehicles and become a cycle route. |
