Summary edit

Description
Français : Musée du tramway de Porto
English: Rotary converter type D.U.G 400/50 with a power rating of 500kW (unlimited) and 625kW limited to 1/2 hour and 500 rpm. Built by Siemens-Schuckert in 1932. This is a six phase (AC) (550V) to DC (550V) converter. On the right side the DC commutator with parallel brushes, on the left side the slip rings with brushes for 6 phase AC. There is an additional asynchronous AC motor (smaller one, far left) on the shaft to start up the rotary converter. A rotary converter can not be started from the AC side without the "help" of the asynchronous AC motor.
