Description
Eesti: Skaneeriva elektronmikroskoobiga Helios Nanolab 600 (FEI Company) tehtud sekundaarsete elektronide pilt kase spooni pinnast, millesse on 40W CO2 laseriga tulistatud auk. Kui silmaga vaadates tundus auk olevat must, siis skaneeriva elektronmikroskoopiaga on võimalik visualiseerida augu servades olevat mikrostruktuuri. Pildi tegemiseks kaeti auguliseks tulistatud spoon eelnevalt õhukese plaatina kihiga, et vältida pinna laadumist kiirendatud elektronidega uurimisel. Tartu Ülikooli füüsika instituudi kiletehnoloogia laboris kasutatakse sageli erinevaid võtteid materjalide sisemuse uurimiseks, milleks tuleb mõnikord valmistada kvaliteetse servaga ristlõige. Pisemate nanostruktuuride puhul kasutatakse selleks fokuseeritud ioonkiirt, kuid antud juhul oli otstarbekam kasutada CO2 laserit.
English: Image of the birch veneer’s surface with a hole shot with a 40W CO2 laser using scanning electron microscope Helons Nanolab 600 (FEI Company). While the hole appeared black to the naked eye, scanning electron microscopy can visualize the microstructure at the edges of the hole. For imaging, the veneer was pre-coated with a thin layer of platinum to prevent the surface from getting charged by the accelerated electrons. In the film technology laboratory of the Institute of Physics of the University of Tartu, various techniques are often used to study the interior of materials, which sometimes requires the production of a high-quality cut cross-sections. For smaller nanostructures, a focused ion beam is used for this purpose, but in this case it was more practical to use a CO2 laser.
