Description

Accession: NHHC 1972.189.A Miniature portrait of Captain Matthew Parke USMC, (1746-1813). Captain Parke was the captain of the marine detachment on the frigate Alliance, under Captain John Landis during the attack on HMS Serapis by Bonhomme Richard. The Alliance formed part of the Continental Navy during the Revolutionary War. The portrait is by an unknown artist and is dated circa 1780.
