Summary edit

Description On 7 January 1822, the schooner Porpoise captured 6 pirate vessels off Cuba and destroyed their base. Also on this date, the brig Spark recaptured a Dutch sloop, which had been taken as a prize by pirates. Lieutenant J. H. Elton, commanding Spark, sent a landing party ashore and destroyed the pirate’s base in the West Indies. USS Spark, Brig, 1814-1826. Plan of Spar and Sails by C. Ware, Boston Navy Yard, circa 1819.
