Description

Stamp of Nicaragua; 1984; commemorative stamp of the series "Paintings by Correggio"; stamp motive with a detail from the painting "Allegory of the Vice" by Antonio Allegri da Correggio (1489-1534) (original title: "Allegoria del Vizio"); The central figure is sometime interpreted as Silenius (was the tutor for the God Dionysos, see Virgil "Eclogues", 6), other see in this figure a depicting of Vulcan.; However that be, in each case the central figure embodies the "negatve virtues" (the sum of all "un-virtues", "unlike virtues") and the whole painting is the counterpart to the painting "Allegory of Virtues". Both were painted as a pair for the "Studiolo" of the Isabella d'Este.; The depicted painting was created between 1529 and 1530 (other source: 1531) in the style of the Italian Renaissance and is actual located in the "Musée du Louvre" in Paris (France).; stamp postmarked
