Summary edit

Description

Coral reefs like the one shown here in National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa are incredibly beautiful, and they're also critical to ocean health. Coral reefs support more species per unit area than any other marine environment! They also help protect people and the places we live by serving as a buffer to protect our coasts from waves, storms, and floods. Sanctuaries like National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa work to protect coral reefs from threats like climate change, overfishing, and marine debris.
