Δημοσιεύτηκε πριν από το ξέσπασμα του Γαλλοπρωσικού Πολέμου και απεικονίζει τον αυτοκράτορα ηλικιωμένο και άρρωστο, να γέρνει για υποστήριξη στον βραχίονα της Marianne, συμβόλου της Γαλλικής Δημοκρατίας, ο οποία τον προειδοποιεί. Η εύθραυστη φιγούρα συμβολίζει μια Γαλλία αδύναμη να νικήσει τους Πρώσους. Ο απερίσκεπτος και μάταιος Ναπολέων αγνόησε τη συνετή νουθεσία, βυθίστηκε στον πόλεμο, και μέσα σε ένα χρόνο ήταν φυλακισμένος.[1]
