WARBLERS 405 plants, spiders webs, etc. These were elaborately woventogether and bound by cotton-like fibers of a vegetableorigin. The nest had a lining of fine fibers and horse hair.He also calls attention to the upper rim of the nest, it* being a strongly interlaced weaving of vegetable roots andstrips of bark. OVEN BIRD The Oven Bird, or Golden-crowned Thrush, rangesthroughout eastern North America, breeding from Kansasand Virginia north to Manitoba and Labrador, south alongmountains to South Carolina, and wintering from Floridasouth. The general outline of the oven bird is suggestive of thethrush family. Their name arises from their remarkablenest, which is placed on the ground among the leaves, ferns,or fallen logs, with the entrance on the side. The nest iscovered externally with dead leaves interwoven with grass,and the lining is of fine round stems. Like the house of theouzel, wren, and magpie, it is large for the size of the bird.
