Description
English: A file photo of the aviation training school located at Navy Mine Depot Yorktown, circa 1920. The school was established after World War I to provide the first advanced aviation training for naval pilots in bombing, torpedo and gunnery operations. NMD Yorktown became Naval Weapons Station Yorktown in 1958, when the Navy expanded the mission of the base. NWS will celebrate 90 years of providing ordnance and technical support to the U. S. Navy Aug. 7, 2008.
