Summary edit

Description
English: German SS Frontbaum ('battlefront tree'), a small artificial tabletop Christmas tree from the Third Reich period, produced for German front soldiers in World War II, with Nazi symbols as Weihnachtsbaumschmuck (Christmas ornaments), i.e. baulbes decorated with swastikas, SS runes (and the text Dich ruft die SS, 'SS calling you'), the German Reich's national colours red, white and black, etc. Also bigger baulbe with Prussian iron cross and Hitler portrait, and a tree-topper. On the wall are uniform badges and pennant for Kriegsmarine.

In Nazi Germany, attempts were made to bring the traditional German celebration of Christmas in line with Nazi ideology. The commemoration of Jesus' birth as the Jewish Messiah was troubling for some members of the anti-semitic Nazi party NSDAP. Between 1933 and 1945, government officials attempted to remove these aspects of Christmas from civil celebrations and concentrate on cultural pre-Christian aspects of the festival. However, church and private celebrations remained Christian in nature.
