Summary edit

Description
English: Photo taken at the Lofoten War Memorial Museum (Norwegian: Lofoten Krigsminnemuseum) in Svolvær, Norway's largest exhibition of uniforms and smaller items related to the Second World War and the German occupation of Norway 1940 – 1945:
  • Christmas decorations/ornamentations (Weihnachtsbaumschmuck) with Nazi symbols of the Third Reich:
    • SS Frontbaum ('SS battlefront tree'), a small artificial tabletop Christmas tree from the Third Reich period, produced for German front soldiers in World War World War II, with baulbes decorated with swastikas, SS runes/bolts, the German Reich's national colours red, white and black, etc.
    • Bigger baulbes with swastikas, Prussian Iron Cross etc.
In Nazi Germany, attempts were made to bring the traditional German celebration of Christmas in line with Nazi ideology. The commemoration of Jesus' birth as the Jewish Messiah was troubling for some members of the anti-semitic Nazi party NSDAP. Between 1933 and 1945, government officials attempted to remove these aspects of Christmas from civil celebrations and concentrate on cultural pre-Christian aspects of the festival. However, church and private celebrations remained Christian in nature.
