Deutsch: Das Nebenwerk Oberer Eselsberg wurde von 1883 bis 1887 als Verstärkung des Oberern Eselsberg, gemeinsam mit dem Hauptwerk Oberer Eselsberg (1881 bis 1887) erbaut. Die Festung Ulm war seit 1874 Reichsfestung und war von 1842 bis 1859 als Bundesfestung (des Deutschen Bundes - 1815 bis 1866) errichtet worden und zwar zu zwei Dritteln auf dem Gebiet des Königreichs Württemberg und zu einem Drittel auf dem Gebiet des Königreichs Bayern (Brückenkopf).
Das Nebenwerk entspricht den Prinzipien des "Biehler'schen Einheitsforts" und ist in diesem Erhaltungszustand einmalig im heutigen Deutschland! Seit 2007 wird versucht das Nebenwerk als Freilicht-Museum der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich zu machen, leider wurde dies bisher vom Eigentümer (Land Baden-Württemberg) und dem Förderkreis Bundesfestung Ulm e.V. vehement verhindert! Dennoch fanden 2009 und 2010 jeweils Veranstaltungen zum "Ulmer Festungsfest" (uff) statt, 2011 wurde eine weitere Veranstaltung (uff 2011) im Nebenwerk untersagt! |
