nsumed at the factory about fifteenhundred tons of coal, two thousand barrels of crude petroleum, twohundred tons of coke, one hundred tons of packing hay, and fivethousand packages, such as casks and barrels for shipping. Rotch.Agent — Frederick S. Shirley.Treasurer — Andrew Snow, Jr. Directors — William J. Rotch, William W. Crapo, JonathanBourne, Edward D. Mandell, Oliver Prescott, and George R. Phillips. Not long ago a gentleman went into one of the largest stores inNew York where art pottery and glass ware are sold, and, approach-ing a counter upon which some very beautiful lamps were displayed,tapped one of the decorated shades and asked the salesman if hewanted to purchase a stock of those goods. Those goods are imported, sir, was the reply. They are fromthe Royal Worcester works.

224 NEW BEDFORD. I beg pardon, said the gentleman. The vase of the lamp isRoyal Worcester, but the shade was decorated in this country. The salesman denied this and said he would call the buyer torthe firm, who happened to be present. The latter was called and substantiated the statement that thearticle was imported.
