Description
English: Pages from New Notes on the the Red Army; No 2 Uniforms and insignia, a military manual published in August, 1944 during World War II by the War Office, a department of the British Government responsible for the administration of the British Army.
  • Pages 06-07 A2 Marshals and Generals – Shoulder-straps
Shoulder-straps of marshals and generals are larger than those worn by other officers. They are from 5 to 6 inches in length and 2 inches in breadth.
They are of a special interwoven pattern for all marshals and generals. Walking-out dress shoulder-straps are made of gold silk braid, with the exception of those worn by generals of the medical, veterinary, and judicial services, which are narrower and made of silver silk braid.
  • The piping varies as follows:
'All marshals and generals ... crimson
except the Air Force ... sky blue
and technical troops (engineers, signals chemical, etc.), and commissariat ... magenta
NOTE: By the new decree, a major general now wears one star, as opposed to the two stars formerly worn on the gorget patch.
