Summary edit

Description
English: The original rowan tree at Vardøhus Fortress in the city of Vardø was planted in the 1950s. It had to be wrapped in before each winter, so that it should be able to survive the harsh winters in the arctic climate. The tree had its own fan club, and it is said to have been the most photographed tree in Norway, as it was the city of Vardø's only tree.

However, at last it wasn't able to keep up with the climate, and in 2002 it had to be cut down.

However, a new rowan tree was planted by children in 2004 on the same spot at the corner of the commandant's residence. The picture shows the new tree as it looked like in the end of July 2007.
