English: Newclose Cricket Ground Opened in 2008 as the home of Isle of Wight Cricket, having recently achieved Minor County status. Viewed from the Bembridge Trail as it descends from St George's Down towards Newport. In the middle distance is the tower of the former Whitecroft Hospital, which opened in 1896 as the Isle of Wight County Asylum, and closed in 1992. It is now being developed for housing. In the far distance is Chillerton Down, with its radio mast. |
