Description
English: Newel memorial, Belfast City Cemetery. The tragic memorial to three brothers in Belfast City Cemetery (see 811787). Erected by their parents, Henry and Helen Newel, the memorial records the deaths of Walter, David and George who were all killed during the First World War.

Walter, Lance Corporal, 6th Black Watch, was killed July 10th 1915 and is buried at the old military cemetery, Wangarie, Levante. He was 26 years old. [Note - this is the information on the gravestone - the Commonwealth War Graves Commission lists his remains as interred at Rue-David Military Cemetery, Fleurbaix - see the first 3 entries at http://www.cwgc.org/search/SearchResults.aspx?surname=newel&initials=&war=1&yearfrom=1915&yearto=1917&force=Army&nationality=6&send.x=33&send.y=13 ] David, Private, 20th Royal Fusiliers, was killed on March 13th 1916 and is buried at Cambrin cemetery (France). He was 23 years old.

George, Company Quartermaster Serjeant, 15th Royal Irish Rifles, was killed on August 7th 1917 and is buried at Wylgie Farm cemetery, Ypres. He was also 26 years old.
